Several identification methods of stainless steel
Source:Xinsteel Date:2020/5/8
For several common stainless steel materials, such as: 202, 201, 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 310S, etc., commonly used identification methods include: qualitative testing, qualitative semi-quantitative testing, full quantitative testing, etc.
1. For general qualitative testing, the nickel content can be determined by the rapid determination solution of stainless steel, that is, the stainless steel identification syrup, such as: low nickel (200), Ni2 (201), Ni4 (202), Ni6 (301), Ni8 304), Ni14 (309,316L), Ni20 (310), etc.
2. Full quantitative method: There are many testing institutions on the market, or use ICP plasma chromatography test, this method is very accurate, and can issue authoritative testing report. However, the detection cost is high, the cycle is long, and destruction analysis is also required.
3. Qualitative and semi-quantitative method: It is recommended to do spectroscopic analysis, and general steel mills will use spectrometer to make material analysis report. The different of the handheld spectrometer is 0.1% with nickel as an example. Nondestructive testing can basically meet the general material identification. The limitation of this method is that it can not test the non-metal content, such as C, Si, P, etc.
