In 2014, US scrap
imports totaled 3.4 million tons, an increase of 4% year on year which is the
highest since 2006(8 years). Meanwhile, as the world's largest exporter of
scrap, scrap export 15.32 million tons in 2014, the lowest since 2006.
In January,
the United States
imported 451,200 tons of scrap which is the most import amount since July 2006.
US scrap imports surge, the main benefit for the US dollar appreciation and
Nucor DRI equipment maintenance, imported mainly from the United Kingdom, Sweden
and the Netherlands as well
as Canada and Mexico.
