Imports of Chinese steel products in Latin America surged 41% in Jan and Feb

According to the Latin American Iron and Steel Institute (Alacero) data show that Latin American countries imported a total of 1.7 million tons of steel from China in January and February, surged 41%, accounting for 10.4 percent of China's total exports, fell by 1.1 percent.

According to the importing country, Brazil imports the most steel from China, totally 0.271 million tons, accounting for 16%, followed by Mexico, imports amounted to 0.248 million tons, while the Central America, including Guatemala and other countries, totally import of 0.243 million tons.

According to the imported varieties, flat products are imported nearly 100 million tons, accounting for 58%. Among them, alloy hot rolled plate and medium plates amounted to 0.409 million tons, hot dip galvanized sheet imports of 0.2 million tons and cold roll coil imports of 0.152 million tons. While long steel imports amounted to 0.613 million tons, mainly include wire, rod and seamless pipe, imports amount were 251,000 tons, 243,000 tons and 99,000 tons separately.
