Selection of stainless steel in marine areas
Source:Xinsteel   Date:2020/7/10
Corrosion in marine areas is relatively serious, and it is a bad area for stainless steel. Type 430 (10Cr17) stainless steel will suffer severe large-scale corrosion in this environment, and it is not suitable for use in most marine areas. Type 304 (06Cr19Ni10) stainless steel can usually adapt well to this environment, but it is likely to suffer from very serious pitting corrosion, so the choice should be cautious. Type 315 stainless steel works well in environments where the chloride content cannot be too high, but in order to protect the surface, it is recommended to clean it regularly. Type 316 (06Cr17Ni7Mo2) stainless steel is most suitable for use in this harsh environment.
Another common situation is an environment in which severe heavy industry pollution is combined with a marine atmosphere. At this time, 316 (06Cr17Ni7Mo2) stainless steel may also suffer unacceptable corrosion, so it is necessary to consider the use of special high alloy grade stainless steel.
