Korea may levy anti-dumping duties on Chinese H-sharp steel

According to South Korean media reported on the 20th, the Korean Trade Commission conducted anti-dumping investigation on China imported H-sharp steel according to some Korean steel mills’ requirements. According to the mid-term report on its findings released on the 20th, the amount of steel imports from China increased lead to domestic steel prices and market share decline. Therefore someone think that authorities might levy anti-dumping duties on construction use H-sharp steel which imported from China.

In 2013, H-sharp steel imported from China to Korea surged 28.6 percent year on year. The price of Chinese products in Korea fell by 10.4% and 15.3% seperately in 2012 and 2013, respectively, over the same period Korean steel product prices fell by 6.6% and 10.0%. Trade Commission released a report pointed out that from the outset, with low sales prices of Chinese products continued to decline, triggering a decline in the price of Korean products. Due to the relative price of Chinese products have advantages, its market share in the Korean steel market increased significantly, while the market share of Korean products decreased.

It is reported that the Committee will trade after further investigation, to decide whether levy steel anti-dumping duties on Chinese product. South Korean steel industry official said, since the Chinese domestic steel production overcapacity, China's steel industry began to export a great number of steel to neighboring countries which causing losses of export enterprises target country, so South Korea is necessary to maintain normal market order through the imposition of anti-dumping tariffs.
