ArcelorMittal plan to shut down rod plant

ArcelorMittal subsidiaries -- Arcelor Mittal US companies plan to close its wire rod plant in Georgetown, it is expected to close in the third quarter of 2015.

The company said that the reason to shut down the plant mainly due to increased imports material and high product cost, US wire rod imports accounted for about 36% of total US rod market, rod imports mainly from China and other countries.

Georgetown rod factory is a major manufacturer of wire rod in the United States, it has furnace with annual output of 0.6 million tons, wire rod production capacity of 0.75 million tons, output of 0.3 million tons last year, has a staff of approximately 200, restarted from February of 2011. All the staff has been working hard, but by the impact of high input costs and imports increasing, the plant sustain a substantial loss since 2011.
