In 2015, Turkey may
become a net importer of steel. Turkish Iron and Steel Producers Association
(TCUD) data show that from January to November of 2015, steel imports of 17.51
million tons, up by 41.6% year on year, exports of 15.24 million tons, down
6.1%, exports and imports ratio decreased to 87: 100. Export revenues also fell
by 21.6% because of the global steel prices down.
Among them, the billet
imports totaled 7.38 million tons, up by 76.9% year on year; flat steel imports
7.78 million tons, increased by 28.4%. Long steel imports 1.43 million tons,
increasing by 6.3%.
